Blockchain Beyond Borders: Interdisciplinary Perspectives and Evolving Legitimacy in ICO-Driven Entrepreneurship

Muhammad Nauman Shahid

National University of Singapore (Singapore) ProQuest Dissertations & Theses, 2024.32248407

Real-World Impact & Core Insight

How is blockchain changing both research and entrepreneurship? This thesis examines how blockchain research has evolved across disciplines and how blockchain ventures build legitimacy when seeking funding in uncertain, rapidly changing markets. It shows how the way ventures present themselves, communicate online, and differentiate their ideas can shape how investors and other stakeholders evaluate them.

Pick The Odd-Ones Out! Conferring Legitimacy Of Initial Coin Offerings By Distinction

Muhammad Nauman Shahid & Jungpil Hahn

Proceedings of the 42nd International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS 2021)

Real-World Impact & Core Insight

Can standing apart actually help a new venture gain legitimacy? Studying 306 ICOs across 29 market categories, this research shows that being distinctive can strengthen a venture's legitimacy when its audience values novelty. The findings challenge the conventional assumption that young ventures must closely resemble established players to gain acceptance and attract resources.

Understanding the Influence of Cultural Dimensions on the Interpretative Ability of People to Infer Personality from the Avatars: Evidence from Cultural Dimensions of Greece, Pakistan, Russia, and Singapore

Muhammad Nauman Shahid & Maria Kralli

Proceedings of the 53rd Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences (HICSS-53)

Real-World Impact & Core Insight

Can culture change how we read personality from an avatar? This pilot study examines how people from different cultural backgrounds interpret personality from customised 3D avatars. Comparing Greece, Pakistan, Russia, and Singapore, it finds that cultural dimensions are associated with how visual cues are used to infer personality, suggesting that the same avatar may not communicate personality in the same way across cultures.

Conceptualizing Multidimensional Reputation Evaluation Model for Crowdsourcing Participants: Blockchain Design Perspective

Muhammad Nauman Shahid

29th Annual Workshop on Information Technologies and Systems (WITS 2019)

Real-World Impact & Core Insight

Can online reputation be evaluated more fairly by looking beyond a single rating? This research develops a multidimensional approach to evaluating participants in online crowdsourcing environments by considering their prior reputation, behavior, the credibility of evaluations, and potential misconduct. The goal is to provide a more comprehensive basis for assessing trust in decentralized digital marketplaces.
